Condition:

framed: 14¾ by 16? in.; 37.5 by 41.6 cm. The small panel is uncradled, planar, and bevelled on all four edges. There are thin wood additions at each edge. The paint surface is stable. The overall image reads clearly beneath a relatively clear varnish. There are some faint and thin inconsistencies to the varnish in the shadows of the trees at left. Inspection under UV reveals a slightly milky varnish. Some very fine strokes and small spots of cosmetic retouching are scattered in the foreground and landscape, largely in the shadows, for example in the middle-ground. There are a few very fine touches in the flesh tones of the figures in the lower left corner. Some more concentrated strokes of retouching and strengthening visible in the sky, primarily along the horizontal woodgrain. The painting has been well-restored and is ready to hang in its present condition. Offered in a darkwood frame.
